A PARTNERSHIP FOR CHANGE

SG1 is a partnership between Stevenage Borough Council and Mace to deliver new investment into the heart of Stevenage Town Centre.

Following a competitive tendering process, Stevenage Borough Council selected Mace as its Development Partner to deliver SG1, the next phase in the regeneration of Stevenage Town Centre.

On December 20th 2019, Mace submitted the planning application for SG1. The process for the Local Planning Authority at Stevenage Borough Council includes consultation on the application during January and early February. The Planning Authority will consider the application and representations later in 2020 prior to making a decision. This is expected during Spring 2020.  The planning application documents can be viewed online by visiting the Council’s website.

“We’re delighted to have a reputable firm like Mace on board as our Developer Partner and are very excited about the consultation as it gives our residents the opportunity to feedback on the proposals that Mace have provided.”

Cllr Sharon Taylor, Leader of Stevenage Borough Council

“I am very supportive of Mace’s imaginative and impressive scheme. The involvement of some of the property world’s leading players in drawing up the plans gives me the confidence that they will be truly transformative. What’s good for Stevenage is good for Hertfordshire.”

Councillor David Williams, Leader, Hertfordshire County Council

Stevenage Borough Council

Stevenage was an inspiring pioneer to a wave of new settlements through post-war Britain. It has a strong local economy, great transport links and real sense of community spirit. Seventy-three years on from its New Town designation, Stevenage Borough Council recognises that its town centre needs renewal.

SG1 forms a large part of a wider, twenty-year regeneration programme and will deliver new homes, commercial activity and public spaces for all to enjoy. It will restore the town square to its former glory and provide a shared public services hub that brings together health services, local libraries, the voluntary sector, café and council offices all under one roof improving efficiencies and lowering costs.

“The plans involve delivering new retail, residential, leisure, food and drink and commercial facilities to the town centre along with new streets and public spaces designed to improve accessibility and connectivity. We encourage as many people to attend the consultation as possible and to see the plans for the future of Stevenage for themselves.”

Cllr Sharon Taylor, Leader of Stevenage Borough Council
