PRP is leading on the design of SG1 and is an interdisciplinary, design-led practice with over 55-years’ experience in housing design and urban planning.

With an extensive team of architects and masterplanners, PRP creates vibrant places of distinction and purpose within the housing and commercial sectors. PRP’s creative thinking for SG1 is to develop five new urban communities, each different but with common threads that respond positively to the Town Centre Conservation Area.

The proposed new urban communities include:

♦ The Northern Quarter (shaded orange in the diagram)

A new residential quarter a stone’s throw from the train station and a range of shops, bars and restaurants.

♦ Garden Square & The Hub (shaded blue)

A civic heart offering a one-stop location for public services, overlooking a new green square, creating a colourful place for people to enjoy in the town centre.

♦ Stevenage Boulevard (shaded green)

Extending the town centre’s pedestrian environment to create a vibrant new shopping street encouraging a spill-out of activity and dining.

♦ Danestrete (shaded red)

A quiet residential quarter offering a range of starter homes and family housing.

♦ Southgate Park (shaded purple)

A new community offering town centre living in a parkland setting with new pedestrian and cycle routes and natural play features.
